GAZ-M1

GAZ-M1

The GAZ-M1 is a Soviet passenger car from the interwar period and World War II. The first copies of this vehicle appeared in 1935, and serial production continued in 1935-1943. The drive was provided by a single 4-cylinder GAZ-M or GAZ-11 engine with a power of 50 HP.

Development work on the GAZ-M1 (popularly known as "Emka"), which was to replace the GAZ-A cars in production, began in 1930. Compared to its predecessor, the new car differed in shape of the body, although it was still a four-seater car. A completely new engine with more power was also used. Relatively quickly, a military version was created with a reinforced chassis and a special platform at the rear of the car, capable of transporting 6 soldiers. Based on the GAZ-M1, the BA-20 armored car was also developed. During World War II, many GAZ-M1 cars were used as staff cars for Red Army officers. The successor of the GAZ-M1 in mass production for the civilian market was the GAZ M-20 Pobieda.
